Not just in Taiwan, but in many other countries as well, people’s first move when visiting any destination or trying any restaurant is often to check in on Facebook. Looking back at 2015, which restaurants in Hong Kong were the most checked in? The food website Nichi conducted a statistical analysis and ranked the top 30 most checked-in restaurants in Hong Kong for that year. These included the three-Michelin-starred L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, the two-Michelin-starred Amber, as well as Nakamura Tokichi’s Hong Kong branch — a century-old Kyoto matcha shop that became popular in Japan and then made its way to Hong Kong — and Lin Heung Tea House, known as a must-try when visiting Hong Kong.

When in Hong Kong, trying local cha chaan teng (tea restaurants) is a must. Among the top 30, Lin Heung Tea House is a classic Hong Kong-style dim sum eatery and a popular spot for many tourists looking to experience local yum cha culture. Meanwhile, although Sing Heung Yuen is a dai pai dong (street stall), it’s a must-eat favorite among visitors. Not only are celebrities like Shawn Yue and Kenny Bee regulars here, but it has also appeared in Hong Kong TV dramas. Its rich and flavorful tomato noodle soup is the signature dish — loved not only by tourists but also by locals, who are willing to squeeze into the cramped dining space just to have a taste.

Hong Kong is also famous for its sweet dessert of steamed milk pudding, and Australia Dairy Company is one of the must-visit spots. The shop is often packed with people lining up for its smooth and creamy steamed milk. The Japanese Kyoto-based matcha institution Nakamura Tokichi opened its first overseas store in Hong Kong, sourcing all ingredients directly from Kyoto so that locals can enjoy an authentic Kyoto flavor without leaving Hong Kong.
