A deer runs in the snow – Osaka and Kyoto experience their first snowfall of winter

Over the past two days, Japan has been affected by a Pacific low-pressure system, bringing heavy snow to the Kanto and Tohoku regions, which even temporarily disrupted both land and air traffic. Meanwhile, the Kansai region finally welcomed its first snowfall of the winter on the 19th due to this low-pressure front.

According to Japanese media reports, multiple areas in Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara turned into a silver-white world on the morning of the 19th. The roof of the main tower of Himeji Castle, a World Heritage Site, was also coated with a layer of white snow, and some roads in Hiroshima City even accumulated about 3 cm of snow by the morning.

The low-pressure system has also alleviated the issue of insufficient snowfall at ski resorts across Japan. For example, the Kuzuryu Ski Resort in Fukui Prefecture received 15 cm of snow accumulation, and it is expected to open to visitors starting from the 21st.
