Where to go during the Spring Festival? Keelung and New Taipei jointly launch a sky lantern shuttle bus to Pingxi

The 2016 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival takes place on the fourth and seventh days of the Lunar New Year and on the Lantern Festival, and it’s going to be lively and exciting. To coincide with the festival,the Keelung City Government and the New Taipei City Government have collaborated to launch a dedicated sky lantern shuttle bus, which will operate from 9 a.m. to midnight on the three event days, with departures from the Keelung City Bus Terminal and Keelung Bus changing its starting point to Ruifang Railway Station, to provide transportation for those joining in the festivities.

Now in its 18th year, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival has become a major celebration during Taiwan’s Lantern Festival. It was recently selected as one of National Geographic's "Top 10 Winter Travel Destinations Worldwide," is recognized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications as an international highlight of the "Taiwan Tourism Calendar," and was even ranked by the renowned American travel channel Discovery as the "World's Second Largest Festival Carnival."

The shuttle bus charges a flat fare of NT$30 upon boarding for one-way trips, with no charge for the return trip. Return buses operate from 7 p.m. to midnight and will depart once full.。Additionally, traffic control measures will be implemented. The control point on the Keelung side is set at Dong’an Second Bridge, with control in effect from 9 a.m. to midnight, restricting public transport vehicles. After the event ends, vehicle control on Provincial Highway 2B will remain in place until midnight.
