Taipei’s “Maokong Gondola” fares to see three-tier hike starting February: from NT$50 to NT$120 for a three-stop ride

Maokong Gondola fares are set to increase. Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation has announced that starting in February, the fares will be raised to NT$70 for one stop, NT$100 for two stops, and NT$120 for three stops. Discounts are available for Taipei residents, seniors, people with disabilities, children, and local neighborhood residents.

The current Maokong Gondola fares are NT$30 for one stop, NT$40 for two stops, and NT$50 for three stops. However, following the Taipei City Government’s policy to rationalize Maokong Gondola fares, the fare increase has been approved and will take effect in February. A distinction between weekday and weekend/holiday pricing will also be introduced, aiming to boost ridership on weekdays.

Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation stated that the so-called weekday/weekend differential pricing means that passengers using an EasyCard to ride the gondola on weekdays will receive a NT$20 discount per trip (no discount applies to single tickets). Seniors aged 65 and over, children aged 6 to under 12, people with disabilities, as well as registered Taipei residents and indigenous people aged 55 and above living in Taipei, can enjoy a flat fare of NT$50 per ride, regardless of the number of stops.

For local residents, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation also announced that residents of four neighborhoods in Wenshan District — Zhinan Li, Laoquan Li, Zhengda Li, and Wanxing Li — will be eligible for a special offer of NT$60 per ride with unlimited rides per day. Eligible residents must present relevant identification documents when purchasing tickets at the counter.

Meanwhile, the popular “Round-Trip Value Ticket” will be adjusted to NT$260 per ticket (with a refundable deposit of NT$20), allowing unlimited stops for one round-trip per day plus one additional free ride. Passengers who use their EasyCards to visit the Taipei Zoo and then take the Maokong Gondola will also enjoy a NT$20 discount on their gondola fare for that trip.
