Alternative Travel in Turkey: 3D Exploration of Historical Sites Launched

With the opening of Turkish Airlines routes, travelers now have more opportunities to visit Turkey, a country at the crossroads of European and Asian civilizations, and experience many millennia-old sites firsthand. The excavation project of the ancient city of Stratonikeia, located in western Turkey, was completed in 2015. It is one of the world’s largest marble heritage sites and the birthplace of multiple civilizations.

According to Daily News, Professor Söüt, who led the excavation project, stated that by the time it concluded, 202 artifacts had been unearthed and handed over to the Muğla Museum for preservation. “The overall structure of the ancient city ruins is truly spectacular, providing us with important historical data and references.”

To help visitors connect more closely with the ancient city, the project also incorporated 3D technology, giving tourists the opportunity to view the imperial palace, the entrance area, as well as the overall condition of the western and northern sections and the gymnasium. This is one of the techniques used in the “Reviving the Ancient City” initiative.
