Everyone who travels abroad may have experienced seasickness or airsickness to some extent. These minor physical issues often ruin the first day of the trip. However, there is no definitive solution to completely avoid such conditions so far. Fortunately, there are still some tips that can help alleviate and manage these physical discomforts. The UK’s Daily Mailhas compiled some tips that might serve as a useful reference.

Before the trip
Since the air on a plane is a bit dryer, it is recommended to drink some water before boarding. However, for some people, this might have the opposite effect, so travelers should be aware of their own physical condition. Also,it’s best to eat something to line your stomach—try not to travel on an empty stomach, but avoid junk food as well.

During the trip
1. If you’re in a car, keep your gaze level or focus on a distant object.
2. If you’re on a plane, get up and walk around regularly to maintain blood circulation.
3. If you’re on a boat, try to stay on a lower deck, keep your gaze level, and adjust your steps to accommodate the motion caused by waves.
4. Falling asleep is the best option, as your body may forget it’s traveling.

After disembarking (from the plane, boat, or car)
Moving vehicles can make your body feel different from when you’re on solid ground. After getting off, find a stable object to lean on for a moment to help your body regain stability. You can also listen to some relaxing music or find a quiet place to rest so your body can recover more quickly.
