Recognizing Chang Yung-fa's Contributions

After the passing of Chang Yung-fa, the founder and former chairman of the Evergreen Group, the Evergreen Group specially set up a memorial hall at the Chang Yung-fa Foundation. The hall was open to the public for paying respects from January 27 to February 5. President Ma Ying-jeou personally visited the memorial hall today (February 4) at 11:00 a.m. to present a citation in recognition of Chang Yung-fa’s contributions to Taiwan’s economic and trade development as well as his philanthropic endeavors.

After President Ma Ying-jeou presented the citation, Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Jian-yu also posthumously awarded Chang the “First Class Transportation Professional Medal” in recognition of his outstanding achievements in international shipping and aviation. Both honors were accepted on behalf of Chang by his eldest son, Chang Kuo-hua. On February 2, Minister of Education Wu Se-hwa posthumously awarded Chang the First Class Education Professional Medal in recognition of his contributions to social education. Following his passing, Chang Yung-fa was honored with three prestigious awards by the President, the Minister of Transportation and Communications, and the Minister of Education.

The Evergreen Group stated that during the memorial period, in addition to employees of the Evergreen Group, nearly ten thousand people from all walks of life and from around the world came to pay their respects. Many disadvantaged groups that had previously benefited from the charitable initiatives of Chairman Chang also came on their own initiative, making the scene very moving.
