Swim alongside dolphins and tropical fish in Taiwan Lantern Festival’s magical 3D ocean tunnel

The 2016 Taiwan Lantern Festival officially kicked off tonight (February 22) next to Taoyuan High-Speed Rail Station. In addition to the record-breaking 26-meter-tall main lantern “Qi Tian Creating Prosperity,” six distinct themed lantern areas each offer their own unique features. This year’s festival includes multiple “interactive lanterns” that not only allow visitors of all ages to step into a 3D world but also let them “turn their faces into lanterns”!

% Not only can you admire the colorful sea creatures in the ocean-themed lanterns, but you can also take photos together with them.
To celebrate Taoyuan’s local industries, the Cloud Technology Zone within the Tech World Lantern Area uses projection technology paired with floating “white clouds” to give the area a dreamy yet futuristic vibe. Visitors can have their photos instantly displayed on the cloud-shaped lanterns above their heads, creating a one-of-a-kind personalized lantern — making this a popular spot in the exhibition.

Additionally, breaking the rule that lanterns are only for viewing, the Creative Lantern Area, led by Poseidon, offers an interactive 3D ocean party. Visitors can enter a shell house, pose for photos under a starfish pavilion, ride a shell-seahorse carriage, and walk through Poseidon’s tunnel, where hand-painted 3D murals and swimming fish projections make it feel like a real underwater tunnel.
