At 3:10 PM on the 23rd (Japan time), a Japan Airlines passenger plane bound for Fukuoka from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido began smoking from its engine while taxiing on the runway. This afternoon, a Japan Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft (Flight No. 3512) bound for Fukuoka from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido began emitting smoke from its right engine while on the runway, prompting an emergency stop. Two female passengers were injured during the evacuation. The aircraft carried 159 passengers and 6 crew members. According to reports from Yahoo Hong Kong, snowfall and strong winds were present at the time of the incident. The airline is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
