Certified premium cycling route by France！ The Brave the East Coast Cycling Event kicks off

Taiwan Route 11 along the East Coast is not only the most bike-friendly area in Taiwan, but also one of the world's top routes voted by cyclists. The "2016 Brave the East Coast Cycling Event," organized by the East Coast National Scenic Area Administration (East Coast Management Office), is now in its 8th edition. This year’s highlight is that the race route includes premium sections that have been certified by the French Association of Cycling Sports (ACP). Event ambassador Hou Yi-jun will also personally take part in the cycling activity, joining the public for a fun day out.

The Brave the East Coast Cycling Event will kick off on April 17 (Sunday) at the Jiaolulan Recreation Area. Online registration is now open. Lin Shin-ren, Director of the East Coast Management Office, said the cycling route will mainly cover Taiwan Route 11, Taiwan Route 23 (Dongfu Highway), and Taiwan Route 30 (Yuchang Highway). Categories include a 160-km Challenge Group, a 95-km Challenge Group, and a 60-km Leisure Group.

This year’s challenge categories have been specially designed to include premium sections certified by the French ACP, allowing riders to push their limits and aim for international standards, with total prize money reaching up to NT$500,000. The 60-km Leisure Group continues last year’s wellness theme by integrating tribal experience activities along the route. In addition to enjoying world-class scenery, participants can join tribal guided tours, DIY craft workshops, and taste indigenous cuisine—making for an enriching and unforgettable experience.

Since registration opened, response has been strong, with over 500 participants already signed up. Event ambassador Hou Yi-jun, who was influenced by her father to love sports and has even completed a triathlon, said she will join the event herself to enjoy cycling amid breathtaking landscapes.

Registration fees range from NT$700 to NT$1,100 depending on the group. Registered participants will receive a event sweatshirt, cap, a finisher’s certificate issued by the East Coast Management Office, a commemorative medal, raffle tickets, sunscreen, facial cleanser, as well as public liability insurance coverage of NT$2 million and travel insurance of NT$2 million per participant. The event also offers mid-route refreshments, finish-line meals, raffle draws, and chip timing services.

The organizers have also arranged exciting performances, the “Wheel Feast” East Coast Food Competition, and DIY activities at Jiaolulan, inviting family, friends, and visitors to join in.
