Last updated 2026-09-23 — Taichung now has a new longan wood-fired roast duck spot — it’s called Firewood Flame Roast Duck Restaurant. The owner flew to mainland China to learn the Peking duck roasting technique from Quanjude, as well as Sichuan cuisine, and after returning to Taiwan, opened this restaurant in Taichung. It specializes in longan wood-fired Yilan cherry ducks, along with a variety of Shanghai, Jiangsu-Zhejiang, and Sichuan dishes. Being able to enjoy so many different regional specialties in one place is the biggest highlight of this Golden Brick Firewood Flame Roast Duck restaurant.

Taichung now has a new roast duck restaurant that uses longan wood for its firewood-fired cooking—that’s the Firewood Flame Roast Duck Restaurant. The owner personally traveled to the mainland to learn the roast duck technique of Quanjude and also studied Sichuan cuisine. After returning to Taiwan, he opened this restaurant in Taichung, specializing in longan wood-fired Yilan cherry ducks, along with a variety of Shanghai, Jiangsu-Zhejiang, and Sichuan dishes. Being able to enjoy multiple distinctive cuisines in one place is the biggest highlight of this Golden Brick Firewood Flame Roast Duck.

The interior decor also has a slightly Chinese-style feel, with spacious and uncrowded space, making dining quite comfortable.

Back when wood-fired pizza was popular, you’d often see pizza ovens in restaurants. I’ve had many roast ducks before, but I’ve never seen a restaurant that displays the roasting oven for customers to admire. This place uses real longan wood for roasting the duck—no need to worry about being inspected!

Let’s take a look at the menu. Vegetarian options and spice levels are clearly marked for easy customer selection. A whole cherry duck is priced at 1,080 NT. It can be served in 11 different ways, and the cherry duck sushi can even be paired with truffle sauce, sesame sauce, and mustard sauce, which sounds pretty amazing.

For walk-in orders, you can generally order dishes worth 4,000–5,000 NT, but anything beyond that requires a reservation since there are more dishes to prepare specially. But I think if you want to eat roast duck, it’s better to reserve in advance because roasting takes a long time, and catching the perfect timing to serve the freshly roasted duck is key.

A single, sufficiently large cherry duck is just right for about five people—if not, the portions may feel a bit small. After all, you want to enjoy plenty of roast duck wrapped in pancakes. I absolutely love sweet bean sauce and the pancake wrappers, haha.

The roast duck is sliced fresh right out of the oven.

Honestly, for those who love roast duck, this plate might not even be enough for five people—I could probably eat a quarter of it by myself.

When I eat roast duck, I must have the crispy skin with a bit of meat, wrapped in a lotus leaf pancake with scallions, cucumber, and sweet bean sauce—nothing can be missing. I could easily eat five of these rolls. Once again, roast duck must be eaten fresh and hot right out of the oven—never cold!

Tower-flavored duck carcass—this is basically like the stir-fried duck carcass we usually have, but I found it a bit dry. The flavor was also somewhat lacking; it would be better with more sauce.

Spicy numb chicken—there was just a bit too much sauce... Although it had the numb-spicy aroma and texture, and the chicken was delicious, the sauce flavor was a bit overwhelming.

Sesame-flavored Songbei pork—this one was really good. It’s basically an upgraded version of sesame oil noodles, with the addition of Songbei pork and king oyster mushrooms.

I actually really liked this dish. I thought it was quite tasty—the sesame oil aroma was rich but not greasy, and the crispy Songbei pork paired perfectly with the soft, chewy noodles. Perfect.

I also want to recommend another dish—I really like the stinky sausage dry pot!

This is the concept of a dry pot, featuring fatty intestines and stinky tofu. I’m a big fan of fatty intestines, so I was super satisfied with just that. The spice level is medium-hot. The stinky tofu was a bit interesting because it was more like “dried” stinky tofu, quite different from the juicy kind I’m used to.

Water spinach. In today’s health-conscious world, no matter how much meat you eat, you still need your greens!

Lettuce with shredded duck. Usually, duck shreds come with deep-fried dough sticks, but at the Firewood Flame Roast Duck Restaurant, they use diced onions as the main ingredient paired with diced duck meat.

Sichuan boiled fish. Generally, the boiled series dishes are the spiciest, with ingredients soaked in bright red spicy oil. Just the visuals can make your mouth water. This dish from the Firewood Flame Roast Duck Restaurant is pretty spicy—I only took one bite and felt the heat. Spice lovers can take on this challenge. It’s a quite flavorful Sichuan dish. Verdict: I think roast duck may be the star, but the other dishes offered have moderate flavors, which should suit the palates of most friends in a group meal setting. Definitely worth trying.
