China Airlines’ new-generation fleet design wins praise, bags 5 German iF Design Awards

The design of China Airlines’ new-generation fleet has been earning rave reviews in the international design community. Following accolades such as the German Red Dot Design Award and the Japan Good Design Award, it has now been honored with the German iF Design Award. Today (27th), China Airlines announced that the cabin design of the 777-300ER, software interface, tableware design, Sky Lounge packaging design, and the VIP lounge at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 under the new-generation plan have collectively won five iF Design Awards.

The 2016 German iF Design Awards were presented in Munich on February 26. China Airlines became the first airline from Taiwan to win the German iF Design Award, with a total of five designs recognized. These include the new-generation 777 cabin featuring a globally unique persimmon wood grain interior and a scholar’s study ambiance with night reading lights, showcasing Eastern aesthetics; the 777 in-flight entertainment system that adopts a touch-control interface, which is both user-friendly and intuitive; 777 tableware designs that blend the Song Dynasty kui-patterned plate, Yuan Dynasty tall-footed bowl, and Qing Dynasty blue-and-white porcelain with the sci-fi feel of landscape-themed bowls—all truly impressive; the Sky Lounge’s Taiwan-selected snacks, whose packaging uses warm gold tones along with classic red seal designs to convey a modern cultural and creative flair; and the new-generation VIP lounge at Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1, inspired by Jiangnan garden landscapes, which successfully merges classical tradition with modern aesthetics.

Since October 2014, China Airlines has introduced the 777-300ER new aircraft, offering passengers a fresh in-flight experience through a cabin design that fuses Eastern aesthetics with modern technology, earning widespread praise both domestically and abroad. Awards it has received internationally include the German Red Dot Best of the Best Design Award, the Italian A'Design Award Silver Prize, the Japan Good Design Award, as well as the 777 family cabin design winning the U.S. Global Traveler’s Leisure Travel Excellence & Innovation Award, the Premium Economy Class being ranked 8th globally by Skytrax, and TheDesignAir international design evaluation listing it among the world’s top 10 airport lounges, 2nd best airline globally, as well as best Business Class and best Economy Class. In 2016, China Airlines’ new A350 fleet will also begin delivery starting July.
