Looking for something other than sweets for afternoon tea? Outing Café & Bar, a trendy bistro, launched its “Classic Tipsy Afternoon” menu series this spring. Unlike the usual cake- and pancake-filled afternoon tea offerings, it features a daily fresh mussel pot delivered straight from Matsu, paired with crispy fries and handcrafted craft beer or white wine. Especially with the large shady area in front of the store, enjoying a mussel pot here offers a delightful European-style culinary vibe.
In Belgium or Europe, enjoying a fresh mussel pot with beer is a common afternoon meal option. Outing carefully selects plump mussels from Matsu. Located at a high latitude, Matsu’s moderate water temperature and unpolluted environment make it the only place in Taiwan suitable for mussel farming. Mussels pair best with handcrafted craft beer or white wine, and Outing Café & Bar offers five different varieties of handcrafted craft beer. In addition to the white wine mussel pot, the “Classic Tipsy Afternoon” menu also includes Niçoise canned salad, green pesto chicken breast Cuban sandwich, and French toast.

▲Outing Special French Toast uses the less common French baguette, which is sliced and soaked in egg mixture. The egg mixture is infused with French cinnamon powder and premium Madagascar vanilla, giving it a rich aroma when pan-fried. It is then served with crispy bacon, sausages, golden fried eggs, and fresh vegetables, drizzled with maple syrup to complete the dish. NT$250.

▲Green Pesto Chicken Breast Cuban Sandwich. Outing uses healthy whole wheat bread. The chicken breast is first boiled and then sliced, while the outer side of the bread is coated with butter and pan-fried until golden brown. The green pesto is made by blending fresh basil leaves, olive oil, and Parmesan cheese in the right proportions using a food processor. Finally, the inside of the bread is layered with cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, romaine lettuce, beef tomato, chicken breast, and green pesto to finish the sandwich. NT$320.

▲Niçoise Canned Salad. Outing’s Niçoise canned salad is made by mixing mustard seeds with olive oil and Italian balsamic vinegar as a base, then layering tuna, cherry tomatoes, olives, boiled eggs, and mixed greens on top. NT$250.
