A centuries-old Aomori heritage site is reborn as Japan’s most beautiful Starbucks

Another Japan’s most beautiful Starbucks has emerged. Hirosaki Park in Aomori Prefecture is one of Japan’s three top cherry blossom viewing spots. The Starbucks in front of the park is a revitalized historical government building from the Taisho era, allowing visitors to enjoy coffee in an old wooden structure rich in timber aroma—earning it the title of Japan’s most beautiful Starbucks among netizens.

The building housing Starbucks Hirosaki Park Store was originally the residence of the commander of the former Eighth Division, built in Taisho 6 (1917), with nearly a century of history. It is now registered as a national tangible cultural property. After minor renovations in 2015, it became a new Starbucks branch—the second Starbucks location reconstructed from a historic site, following the Kobe Kitano Ijinkan Store.

The exterior of the Hirosaki Park Store exudes the charm of the Taisho era, while the interior is divided into three rooms. Its high ceilings and abundant natural light are standout features, and the space is designed to resemble a retro art gallery. Traditional Hirosaki crafts are used to decorate the benches, adding a touch of local artistry. Enjoying the aroma of modern coffee while soaking in the historical ambiance is the greatest pleasure here.
