Accidentally a tourist attraction: Prague’s narrowest alley installs traffic lights to prevent “personal accidents”

The Czech capital of Prague has the narrowest alley in the entire city, which has been equipped with the world’s tiniest set of traffic lights. Whenever pedestrians need to cross, they must press a button at the entrance to the alley, activating the signal lights on the other side to avoid the “traffic accident” of two people meeting and getting stuck inside.

This narrowest alley in the world is just 50 centimeters wide, located in Prague’s Mala Strana district, situated between two buildings. It is a small lane about 10 meters long. Due to its extremely narrow width, only one person can pass through at a time, and because the alley has slight curves, if two people try to pass simultaneously, an awkward “traffic accident” of them getting stuck could easily occur.

To avoid such embarrassing situations, the local authorities installed manual traffic lights at both entrances of the alley. Before crossing, pedestrians must press a button similar to a pedestrian crossing button and wait for the light to change before proceeding. This interesting traffic light design has become a quite popular tourist attraction in the area.
