The travel search engine Skyscanner.com.tw released a big data report on the “best time to book flights” for Taiwanese travelers.The data shows that the cheapest average month for flight tickets in Taiwan is November, while the most expensive is July, with a difference of 48%.Additionally, for popular destinations like Osaka, January is the cheapest, while February is the most expensive.

This statistical data shows that November is the cheapest month for flights because it is a relatively low-travel period of the year and comes before the peak holiday travel season at the end of the year, allowing for an average saving of about 21.1%; July is more expensive due to the summer vacation peak season, costing 26.9% more than the average.

In addition, different cities also show varying price trends. Taking nearby cities as examples, the top four most popular Asian cities among Taiwanese travelers areOsaka, Tokyo, Okinawa, and Seoul.Among them, Kansai Airport in Osaka may be closely linked to tourist crowds, seasons, and flowering periods, making January — after the maple leaf season and New Year’s — the cheapest month (with around 14.2% savings); Tokyo, Okinawa, and Seoul also have their cheapest ticket months in November (with around 18.6%, 21.9%, and 5% savings respectively). However, with the travel surge during Lunar New Year, the most expensive months for these four cities are February, not during summer vacation.

As for long-haul destinations, the top choices among Taiwanese travelers —Paris, London, and Los Angeles —all have their cheapest months near the end of the year. The cheapest month to fly to Paris is December, with about 3.9% savings, while London and Los Angeles are both cheapest in November, with 5% and 7.7% savings respectively. The summer peak season, which brings family travel, also makes these three cities most expensive from July to August (Paris in July, London in July, Los Angeles in August).
