Ordering only opens for 10 minutes a day — Tokyo’s mysterious breakfast “Red Bean Pancake Muffin”

Many food and beverage businesses offer drinks and light meals to build a customer base, and also launch different menu items according to the time of day. Recently, a popular Japanese-style café“うさぎやcafé” (Usagiya Café), introduced a breakfast-exclusive red bean pancake muffin, but ordering is only available for 10 minutes each day,making it a hot topic of discussion.

“うさぎや” is a well-known long-established Japanese confectionery brand with a history of 103 years, mainly offering traditional sweets such as dorayaki (red bean pancakes), mochi, and yokan. Their signature dorayaki are especially popular for their soft texture and rich filling. In 2015, they opened a Japanese-style café “うさぎやcafé” in Ueno Hirokoji, serving a variety of drinks, desserts, and even kakigori (shaved ice).

Earlier this year, “うさぎやcafé” showcased its creativity once again by launching a pancake item during breakfast hours — the Usapan Muffin. Unlike regular pancakes, this version uses high-quality Japanese flour and is topped with red bean paste and whipped cream. The combination of fluffy pancake, sweet red bean, and creamy topping creates a uniquely delicious flavor. It is only available for a limited time during breakfast, making it a must-try for early risers.Ordering is only available from 9:00 AM to 9:10 AM each day— if you want to try it, you’ll need to wake up early and be quick on your feet.
