A "Underwater World" Appears at Erchong Metropolitan Park: The Ocean's Apex Predator, the Plesiosaur, Also Makes an Appearance

The riverside park has been transformed into an underwater world ! Locatedunder the Chenglu Bridge in New Taipei’s Erchong Metropolitan Park,vibrant and diverse tropical fish, turtles, and other creatures can be seen swimming leisurely. But turn a corner and you’ll come face-to-face with fierce sharks, hungrily eyeing their prey; go a bit further, and you’ll even discover the home of mermaids. It turns out the deep sea world is truly magical and mysterious—come and immerse yourself in the charm of the ocean depths.

The mysterious and dazzling world of the ocean has always been a place of wonder and curiosity for humans. To satisfy the public’s curiosity, New Taipei City Government has brought the underwater world to the area under the Chenglu Bridge. The six bridge piers under the bridge each represent a different underwater scene. Some of the pier murals depict divers interacting with adorable tropical fish just beneath the water’s surface, with the turquoise sea highlighting the serene underwater atmosphere; others portray the dangers of the deep, especially the ferocious expression of a shark with its mouth wide open, making passersby break out in a cold sweat.

There’s also the ancient ocean apex predator, the plesiosaur, an ancestor of the modern great white shark. With its massive size and mouth full of sharp teeth, it’s caught mid-motion, about to devour its prey with its gaping jaws. Finally, there’s the adorable mermaid seemingly waving to people—the mermaid’s castle is so magnificent. Visitors are welcome to come and take photos.

The riverside park under the Chenglu Bridge in New Taipei City features a bike station, which gathers crowds of cyclists every holiday. Nearby, the Wugu Wetland, covering approximately 92 hectares, serves as a stopover for migratory birds traveling between north and south. Its rich and diverse ecosystem attracts and nurtures wild birds, crabs, fish, and more to make their home here. Adjacent to it, the Breeze Canal offers international-standard waterways, making it a favorite spot for boating and water activity enthusiasts and groups during holidays. Now, with the addition of ocean-themed painted pillars, the riverside area offers even more fun.
