The office chair race championship has a seven-year history in Japan, originating from Kyotanabe City in Kyoto Prefecture. It began when local shops in the shopping district noticed a slump in business and decided to try using office chairs for a fun event. Unexpectedly, it has now been running for seven years and has spread across Japan. Teams consist of three people, who must sit on office chairs and use their feet to slide around, competing to see who can complete the most laps within a set time.

One of the Taiwanese organizers of the "office chair race," "Rainbow Came," formed the “Zhengxing Gang” and traveled to Japan to participate in the race on March 26th. According to “Rainbow Came” on its Facebook fan page, there were 90 teams competing, with only 27 making it to the finals. Although the “Zhengxing Gang” only placed 39th, being the Taiwanese team, they were exceptionally allowed to enter the finals. “The spectators kept cheering us on, and the other teams encouraged each other,” they said. In the two-hour finals, their score was 69 laps. Though they didn’t win any awards, they still felt, “It was an honorable defeat.”

The Japanese organizers got in touch through the Tainan City Government and chose Tainan to host the first overseas edition of the race. The first overseas office chair race will be held on April 24th on Haian Road in Tainan City. Teams consist of three participants who must sit on office chairs and use their feet to slide around. The event features both a “speed race” and a “2-hour endurance race.” Competitors must overcome challenges such as fatigue, wheel malfunctions, or obstacles on their own.
