Jungfrau Mountain in Switzerland is located at an altitude of 3,454 meters, where even a slight increase in walking pace can leave you breathless. However, the snow concert known as the “Swiss Springsteen” is a must-attend event held every year on the first Saturday after Easter. Locals and tourists come here not just for skiing, but also to sway and enjoy performances amid towering snowy peaks. Each performer must have an “iron lung” to be qualified to sing and dance on this “highest-altitude stage.”

▲ Even in the cold and snowy conditions, everyone goes all out with enthusiasm for the concert!
In the past, climbing Jungfrau was almost as difficult as reaching the heavens. Aside from dealing with the altitude, one had to face the harsh challenges of the freezing climate, where a small misstep could lead to altitude sickness or other health issues. The construction of the railway back then was extremely tough—not only did it aim to support tourism, but it also preserved the natural landscape. Many workers lost their lives, and after 16 years of painstaking effort, the railway was finally completed and opened to traffic in 1912.Today, getting to the mountaintop is as simple as taking a train, allowing you to see the “highest railway station in Europe” and experience the majesty of the Jungfrau.; The station also has a memorial dedicated to the workers who lost their lives during the construction.
From the mountain summit, a train ride down to about 2,000 meters above sea level brings you to the stage of the “snow concert.” Usually held on the first Saturday after Easter each year, it attracts locals and tourists alike to sway and sing together in the snow. This year (2016), the concert took place on the afternoon of April 2, featuring performances by three bands from Germany and Switzerland: Die Fantastischen Vier, Patent Ochsner, and PEGASUS. Additionally, behind the stage, colorful trains in bright reds and yellows frequently appear, traveling through the vast snowy landscape — creating an incredibly fairy-tale-like atmosphere!
