Offenders will be asked to disembark immediately ! Japan’s Shinkansen   Bans Flammable Liquids Starting April 28

Japan Railways (JR) has announced that fromApril 28, passengers will be prohibited from carrying flammable liquids such as gasoline on Shinkansen and conventional rail lines, and those found in violation will be asked to disembarkat the nearest station, with private railways also considering following suit.

According to Japanese media reports, in 2015, a male passenger on the Tokaido Shinkansen set himself on fire using gasoline inside a train car, also injuring two female passengers. In addition, the G7 Summit is scheduled to be held in Mie Prefecture, Japan, in May, with multiple world leaders gathering there. To enhance security and prevent similar incidents from happening again, JR announced on the 2nd that starting April 28, passengers will be banned from carrying flammable liquids such as gasoline and kerosene on Shinkansen and conventional rail lines.

However, considering that flammable liquids also include items such as alcohol, hairspray, cosmetics, and medications, JR has stated that these items are still allowed on board as long as they do not exceed 2 liters in volume or 2 kilograms in weight including containers.
