As big as the palm of your hand！　Giant strawberries freshly picked in Gamagōri—eat all you can for an unbeatable price

For Japanese people, Gamagōri City is synonymous with strawberry picking. From December to May every year is peak strawberry season, and weekends in March see a huge influx of tourists coming here to enjoy the rural experience. The best part?You can eat as you pick, with no time limits. Just one entry ticket lets you feast on strawberries as big as the palm of your hand—truly satisfying！

Once you enter the strawberry field, staff will hand out small boxes of condensed milk at the entrance so you can dip your fresh-picked strawberries right away. The farm advises that bright red strawberries are ready to eat. Gamagōri Orange Park staff noted that March is the peak strawberry picking season, with up to 2,000 visitors in a single day. However, each farm can only accommodate 30 people at a time,so weekend visits usually require advance reservations. Ticket prices vary depending on strawberry production, with the highest being 1,800 yen in January and the lowest 1,200 yen in May.

Katsuta Takayuki explained that the strawberries grown in Gamagōri are an improved variety called “Akihime,” which is why they’re so large. Another newer variety, “Yume-no-Sato,” is slightly more acidic and not as sweet as Akihime. The mild winter and cool summer climate in Gamagōrimeans that after the May strawberry season ends, melons are harvested from June to September, followed by oranges from October to December—making it a great destination to visit all year round.
