The must-try "Rice Pearl Milk Tea" on Brown Boulevard — handcrafted tapioca pearls made from Taitung Chishang rice!

It’s not unusual to have tried bubble tea, but have you ever had the unique "rice pearl milk tea"? Located near Brown Boulevard, the Rice Homeland Museum offers the only "Rice Pearl Milk Tea" in Taiwan, handmade using Taitung Chishang rice along with tapioca flour, brown sugar, and other ingredients. The pearls retain whole grains of rice, offering a chewy, Q-textured experience with a distinct rice flavor — truly special. In recent years, it has become a must-order signature drink for tourists visiting the area!

Ye Jie, the manager of the Rice Homeland Museum, said she was inspired after noticing how much young people love bubble tea. She thought, why not use Taitung’s most famous Chishang rice as the ingredient to create a unique "rice pearl milk tea." The pearls are made with tapioca flour, brown sugar, and Chishang rice, steamed and then chilled before being cut into special square shapes that are just the right size for straws.

Ye Jie explained that because the product is entirely handmade and free from preservatives, only about 50 to 60 servings are made at a time. Once sold out, new batches are prepared to maintain freshness and texture. Occasionally, if there's a sudden large order, they will produce more immediately. On April 23rd, the Taitung Tiehua New Village will hold the spring "Seasonal Dining Festival," where rice pearl milk tea and related products will also be featured.

These special square pearls preserve the complete Chishang rice grains. They are chewy and allow you to actually taste the full grains of rice, paired with sweet and smooth milk tea, creating a uniquely perfect match. It’s become a signature drink that many travelers visiting the area simply must try.
