Responding to Earth Day: Free rides on electric buses in Kaohsiung

April 22 is Earth Day. To mark this meaningful occasion, the Kaohsiung City Government’s Department of Transportation has launched the “422 Earth Day – Ride Electric Buses for the Planet” campaign. On that day, simply show the event voucher on your mobile phone or tablet toenjoy free rides on two electric bus routes: “West City Express” and “Jianguo Trunk Line”. Citizens are encouraged to take these eco-friendly buses together to reduce air pollution and celebrate Earth Day.

Chen Chin-fu, Director of the Department of Transportation, said that Kaohsiung’s most representative green transportation is its fully electric-powered buses. This campaign features the West City Express and Jianguo Trunk Line, both operating with electric buses, as designated routes where the public can enjoy free rides. The goal is to allow citizens to experience the comfort, quietness, and zero-emission benefits of electric buses, while also echoing Earth Day’s theme of energy conservation and carbon reduction. Currently, Kaohsiung has a total of 22 electric buses, serving the West City Express, Jianguo Trunk Line, and the Qimei National Highway Express, with multiple fare discount programs continuously being promoted. The public is welcome to make use of these services.

During this campaign, members of the public can show the event voucher image on their mobile phones or tablets on Earth Day, April 22, to ride the electric buses “West City Express” and “Jianguo Trunk Line” for free. The event voucher image can be downloaded from theDepartment of Transportation’s official website, the Facebook fan page “Spinning Youth Dreams of Kaohsiung,” or the splash screen of the “Kaohsiung iBus” app.
