A dessert shop hidden near Binjiang Market – Butter＆Pie specializes in fresh milk rolls

Located in an alley not far from Binjiang Market and HowToTrip’s Shangyin Aquatic Market, on the first floor of a traditional old apartment building, there is a dessert shop with a Tiffany blue exterior. This shop, called Butter＆Pie, specializes in fresh milk rolls, using fresh cream imported all the way from Hokkaido, Japan. So why open a shop near Binjiang Market? Owner Jeremy believes that Shangyin Aquatic Market attracts a lot of visitors, and after enjoying seafood, they might want to have a little dessert.

Jeremy says that Butter＆Pie’s fresh milk rolls use Tasuke fresh cream, and are all handmade purely in the kitchen at the back of the store. Their characteristic is being sweet but not greasy, melting in your mouth. In addition to the signature Hokkaido Original Fresh Milk Roll, there are also flavors such as Hokkaido Chocolate Bean Fresh Milk Roll, Hokkaido Extra Dark Fresh Milk Roll, and Hokkaido Matcha Fresh Milk Roll. They also make fruit-flavored fresh milk rolls according to seasonal fresh fruits. Besides the fresh cream being imported from Japan, the flour is also imported from Japan, and the matcha powder used is from Kagoshima, Japan—resulting in a matcha fresh milk roll that is sweet with a hint of fragrance and richness.

In addition to fresh milk rolls, Butter＆Pie also offers various fruit pies in different sizes. Jeremy says he uses only the freshest fruits. Once, a customer said the blueberries in the blueberry fruit pie were large and sweet. However, Jeremy says that due to seasonal and procurement limitations, he tries his best to maintain the quality of the fruits.

Actually, Jeremy used to work as a pastry chef in hotels in Canada, but because his wife couldn’t adapt to life in Canada, they returned to Taiwan, and he eventually came back as well. Opening a dessert shop in Taiwan became his goal (dream). To achieve this goal, he was willing to work at other dessert shops for a salary of just 22K, honing his craft, and finally opened Butter＆Pie in March. In addition to the physical store, he plans to move toward offering online shopping services in the future.
