New Taipei City's Mega 18T "Monster Pizza" — Hand-torn pork, egg yolk, cheese

Last updated 2026-09-23 — I have a friend who absolutely, positively, loves pizza. Whenever a new pizzeria opens up, he’s there in a flash to try it out. People often tease him that he might as well just open his own pizza shop. He always replies with his mouth full of pizza, “If I opened a shop, I’d be tied down—I wouldn’t be able to go hunting for delicious pizzas all over the place.” This pizza was recommended by him, and you could even say it’s been certified by him.

[Yong’an Market Station Eats] Pizza Doppio

I have a friend who absolutely, positively, loves pizza. Whenever a new pizza place opens up, he’s there in a flash to try it out. People often joke that he might as well just open his own pizza shop. He always replies with a mouthful of pizza, “If I owned a shop, I’d be tied down—I wouldn’t be able to go hunting for delicious pizzas all over the place.” This pizza place was recommended by him—basically, his seal of approval, XXD.

Honestly, I don’t really get what defines a New York-style pizza... As I often describe myself, I’m someone who “enjoys food without overthinking.” As long as it tastes good, I don’t care if it’s from New York, Paris, or Bangkok (laughs). But I did sneak a peek online—apparently, a New York-style pizza refers to a “large” pizza, sometimes even called a “monster pizza.”

Whether pizza has to be wood-fired to taste good is as debatable as whether Japanese yakitori must be grilled over charcoal. But I do know this: the pizza cooked in Pizza Doppio’s oven is nothing short of excellent, and it hits all the right notes for me.

In addition to the pizza oven, the ingredients, oils, and seasonings used in the shop are all openly displayed in the kitchen and hallway, which is very reassuring.

The owner says most of their lunchtime customers are takeout orders. To make things convenient, they offer individual slices of pizza for sale—a concept similar to American street pizza carts. Aside from single slices (NT$50), there’s also a great-value personal combo (NT$100). You can choose two slices of pizza plus a drink or soup, or one slice of pizza + fries + a drink. However, these are only available on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM.

The dining area consists of high-top square tables downstairs and cozy sofas upstairs. Seeing those sofas instantly gave me a nostalgic vibe of old-school cafés—so warm and inviting.

With so many flavors to choose from, someone like me with a serious case of choice paralysis found it a bit overwhelming. In the end, I went with the owner’s recommendation: an authentic American-style Cuban pulled pork pizza.

Besides pizza, the shop also offers common pizza appetizers like salads and some American-style starters. They even have pasta and risotto options, and recently added burgers and sandwiches for brunch.

In addition to the takeout combos mentioned earlier, Pizza Doppio also provides dine-in duo and solo meal sets.

Italian beef meatballs served with garlic bread, and they’ve even sneakily hidden some lettuce inside XD. It looks great and is nutritionally balanced—who says pizza isn’t healthy? XD

The beef meatballs are coated in a thick layer of tomato sauce, free from the metallic tang I dislike in canned tomatoes. It’s closer to a pure tomato paste but not overly sour or too sweet. The texture of the meatballs is hearty, yet you can still taste a bit of juicy tenderness. I really liked them.

Because I enjoyed the sauce so much, I ended up wiping the crispy bread clean with it!!

This Greek salad may look simple, but the lettuce is delightfully crisp, the dressing is light yet flavorful, and the bits of ham crumble on top are incredibly aromatic.

Cheddar cheese fried chicken wings + fries, served with cheese sauce and tomato sauce.

The fries are perfectly fried—crispy and golden without being greasy. A sprinkle of seasoned salt adds a tasty kick, making them so addictive I didn’t even need tomato sauce—just kept eating them one after another XD

The chicken wings are even crispier than they look. Biting into them releases juicy fat from the skin, which I love. The meat is tender, soft, and juicy—as good as any chicken wing should be. No sauce needed, but the cheese sauce adds a lovely twist.

The signature Club Sandwich features four large American-style sausages that really catch your eye. A sprinkle of black pepper provides much of the saltiness and aroma.

Besides ham, it also hides half-melted mozzarella cheese and grilled chicken, along with plenty of lettuce and tomato. It’s extremely generous. The bread is lightly toasted with slightly charred edges, giving you different textures in each bite—the melty cheese, the crisp lettuce, the tender chicken, and the savory ham—all combining into a truly worthy “club” sandwich (laughs).

And finally, the star of the day: the American-style Cuban pulled pork pizza. When this massive 18-inch pizza arrived, I finally understood why some call these American pizzas “monster pizzas”—they’re absolutely huge...

To give you an idea of its size, I used my tiny iPhone 7 as a size reference, as usual XD.

To be honest, I’m not much of a pizza enthusiast, but I really loved this one. It has a satisfyingly chewy texture. The crust isn’t as crispy as I usually prefer, but the cheese and egg additions give it a pleasant softness. Especially the mozzarella—it’s amazing. The roasted onions are fragrant and tempting, and there’s a hint of garlic that’s just right. The pulled Cuban pork is salty and flavorful, and then there are the occasional black olives that pop up for an extra kick. It looks simple but is anything but. One slice and I was completely satisfied.

Because I loved the flavor of the pizza so much, we barely touched the table condiments.
