For thrill-seekers, don’t miss the world-renowned Six Flags Theme Parks in the southwestern United States. As one of the largest theme park chains globally, its first U.S. location was established right here in Texas. There are two Six Flags parks in the state: Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington and Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. At Six Flags Over Texas, adrenaline junkies can ride the New Texas Giant roller coaster—one of the most famous wooden coasters in Texas—enjoying speeds of up to 80 km/h and high-altitude twists over 820 meters. Both parks offer an array of exciting rides, as well as tamer options for those who prefer less intensity.

When it comes to the coolest outdoor summer adventure, look no further than New Braunfels’ Schlitterbahn Waterpark, rated “#1 in America” by Travel Channel. Spanning 26 hectares, it features over 40 water rides and 6 family-friendly attractions. These include 3 water coasters, 6 water slides, 17 flumes, 5 swimming pools, 5 hot tubs, 7 children’s play areas, and a beach volleyball zone. One of its most famous rides is The Black Knight, a 167-meter enclosed, fully dark tunnel slide where riders spiral down at high speed. Beyond its many water attractions, the park’s natural riverside setting is another highlight. This German-themed waterpark has also expanded to Galveston, South Padre Island, and Corpus Christi in Texas.

Beyond land and water park thrills, the Texas State Aquarium offers another sensory-rich adventure. It’s the largest aquarium in Texas, showcasing over 13,000 creatures across 460 species. In addition to its 1.5-hectare exhibition space, it houses a 4D theater that seats 100—the only one of its kind in southern Texas. With its rich biodiversity, high-quality ecological exhibits, and strong visitor engagement, the aquarium attracts over 500,000 visitors annually. In April 2019, it was nominated by USA TODAY as one of the top 20 aquariums in North America. The Caribbean Journey exhibit, opened in May 2017, highlights marine life from the Caribbean, including nurse sharks, Caribbean flamingos, sloths, bats, macaws, toucans, and hundreds of coral species. This exhibit has become a must-see at the aquarium.
Whether it’s a heart-pounding wooden roller coaster, endless water slides, or exploring a magical underwater world, Texas offers the most fun adventures for anyone with a true sense of wonder.
