Recently, SONEVA FUSHI and SONEVA GILI have partnered to launch a marine conservation initiative in the Maldives along with the October International Literary Festival. Fabien Cousteau, the 43-year-old grandson of legendary oceanographer Jacques Cousteau, will spend a month at the Six Senses flagship resort Soneva Fushi, where guests will have the opportunity to dive and dine with him.
Fabien Cousteau, who is both an oceanographer and a filmmaker, is 43 years old. The aim of this visit is to raise public awareness about the overuse of marine resources. His charity “Plant A Fish” (www.plantafish.org) is working with Soneva Fushi to research and develop fundraising initiatives, with proceeds going towards restoring marine populations in the Maldives, including a major lobster ecological rehabilitation project.
Additionally, the Maldives will host the world-renowned “Hay-on-Wye” literary festival for the first time from October 14 to 17. The event is sponsored by Soneva Fushi’s sister resort, Soneva Gili, and will take place on Aarah Island near the Maldivian capital, Malé (Male). Soneva Gili will be responsible for daily transportation.
In addition, Soneva Gili will also host the closing event of the literary festival, where guests can seize the opportunity to meet renowned authors, including Jung Chang, author of "Wild Swans," Ian McEwan, author of the novel "Atonement" which inspired the film "Atonement," as well as several local Maldivian writers.
