Macau Tower is famous worldwide for good reason. The building features a mixed-use design, including a convention center, observation deck, shopping street, revolving restaurant, bar, and café, similar to the tourist image created by Taipei 101. Located in the newly reclaimed area of Macau’s South Bay, Macau Tower was designed by Macau’s gambling tycoon Stanley Ho. Its exterior resembles a needle and is quite distinctive. It is also somewhat similar to other well-known towers around the world. Completed in 2001, the tower stands 338 meters tall, with its main sightseeing floor at 233 meters above ground, offering a view spanning up to 55 kilometers. From here, you can overlook Macau’s South Bay, West Bay, the Ruins of St. Paul’s, as well as the Pearl River Estuary and Zhuhai City. It is currently the 10th tallest freestanding tower in the world.

Next come the activities you won’t find in buildings like Taipei 101 — a series of thrilling facilities that are arguably the coolest part of Macau Tower. Skywalk X is one of the most popular activities. Participants walk around the tower at a height of 233 meters on the 61st floor, with no handrails whatsoever. People rely solely on a suspended safety system with a harness tied around their waist, walking along a 1.4-meter-wide, 140-meter-long outdoor elevated edge, fulfilling the dream of walking in the sky. Every step is a challenge, and whether you’re walking slowly or sitting at the edge of the tower, it’s sure to draw gasps of amazement!
