The “Danlan Ancient Trail” was the main transportation route during the Qing Dynasty from Tamsui Hall (modern-day Taipei) to Kavalan Hall (present-day Yilan). This historic, culturally rich, and ecologically diverse ancient trail has not only made it onto many hikers’ bucket lists but has also attracted Japanese magazines to come to Taiwan for interviews. Recently, New Taipei City Government launched the Danlan Ancient Trail A+ Project and exclusive beginner experience tours, offering the chance to explore this century-old trail in northern Taiwan on foot and embark on a journey away from the everyday.

The “Danlan Ancient Trail” is divided into three routes: the North Route (official road), the Middle Route (folk path), and the South Route (tea road), spanning the current four administrative regions of northern, central, and northeastern Taiwan. By the end of 2018, the North Route (official road) was fully restored, with signage installed. It has attracted many communities and enthusiasts seeking a return to nature and cultural exploration. It has even caught the attention of the Japanese outdoor fashion magazine 《Randonnée》, which came to Taiwan specifically to report on this historic trail.

To more deeply experience the forested wilderness, just like the pioneers of a century ago who sought adventure and self-discovery, the “Danlan Ancient Trail A+ Project” and “Beginner Experience Exclusive Tour” follow the GPX digital track of the Danlan Ancient Trail’s North Route. Participants complete designated routes and challenges to walk this sacred path unique to Taiwan.

Based on different difficulty levels, there are three route options: “Wild Path,” “Challenge,” and “Ultimate.” From now until April 21, participants who complete their route track, date, photos, and reflections, then upload them to Facebook with a public post using the designated hashtag, will be eligible for the lucky draw.
