The 2011 Taipei International Travel Fair concluded successfully yesterday (the 14th), with nearly 300,000 attendees over the four-day period. The hotel and leisure inn section at World Trade Center Hall 3 drew huge crowds queuing for deals, leading to around a 20–30% increase in sales for most hotels compared to previous years. The first-time exhibitor, The House Les Suites Taipei, sold out its limited tickets on the first day, while the hotel restaurant chain group Regent Taipei, which attracted long lines, retained its title as this year’s meal voucher champion.

Hotel operators went all out to boost sales during the fair. Among resort hotels across Taiwan’s four major regions—east, south, west, and north—the top sellers were: Eastern Taiwan’s Farglory Hotel Hualien with NT$30 million in revenue; Southern Taiwan’s Kenting Caesar Park Hotel with NT$28 million; Western Taiwan’s Chateau de Chine Hotel with NT$20 million; and Northern Taiwan’s Yangmingshan Terra Wellness Resort, which achieved NT$19 million in four days, taking the crown among northern resort hotels. Among hotel chains, The Landis Taipei Group remained the leader, with preliminary sales estimated at NT$55 million.

To save visitors time waiting in line, Yangmingshan Terra Wellness Resort pioneered a “QR code mobile ordering” service in the hotel industry. By scanning the QR code displayed at the booth with their mobile phones, customers could instantly connect and complete credit card transactions on the spot. This attracted many users and demonstrated that smartphone applications have become a new trend in shopping marketing.
