Spring is in full bloom, and even ice cream is blossoming into beautiful flowers. Gelato & More, a handmade Italian gelato shop located in Anping District, Tainan City, launched its “Flower Extravaganza Gelato” in May. Delicate sugar-frosted flowers are crafted atop fruit and floral tea-flavored gelato, resembling edible artworks. The unique presentation has sparked a craze, with some flavors selling out before noon.

▲ Gelato & More’s Italian gelato features actual slices of fruit — every bite is a delight.

Gelato & More currently offers 11 flavors, including mango, pineapple, rum raisin, tomato, blueberry yogurt, plum hibiscus, tiramisu, vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and caramel earl grey. It takes some time to try them all. At least 5–6 flavors are available daily, but quantities vary, and there’s a strict daily limit of only 15 flowers — which can be placed on any flavor of gelato, at the customer’s choice. Each day, at least six gelato flavors are offered, and currently, all are highly popular, often selling out by noon.

▲ Besides gelato, the mango snowflake shaved ice is also a long-time signature item. The mangoes used are homegrown Irwin mangoes, and most other fruits come from fruits grown by people the owners know.

In tune with seasonal fruits, customers can now regularly enjoy mango and pineapple — entire slices of fruit enveloped in soft gelato. Unlike typical ice creams that emphasize creamy milkiness, this version highlights the natural sweetness of the fruit. Made entirely by hand, production is limited, with a maximum of only 70 gelatos produced per day. Gelato & More explains that their gelato is made by simmering or fresh-blending fruits, topped with fresh fruit. The gelato contains no additives, so it melts quickly at room temperature. Currently, the gelato flavors mainly fall into fruit and floral tea categories — the fruit flavors are rich and packed with real fruit pieces, while the floral tea flavors are refreshing and not overly sweet.

Gelato & More has been in business for nearly three years. Starting with Italian ice cream, they made their own cookie shells, then switched to cup servings with tea jelly at the bottom — but the response wasn’t as expected. It wasn’t until May this year, when they transitioned to selling Italian gelato, that they truly found success, attracting many visitors who come to experience it for themselves.
