Lantau Island: Highly Recommended by Locals
A trip to Lantau Island is the most convenient and relaxing outdoor itinerary. It’s just a few MTR stops from the airport, and reachable from the city center in 1–2 hours or less. Plus, you can take the Ngong Ping Cable Car for a 25-minute ride up the mountain — super accessible within just two hours, you’ll arrive at a hidden paradise. If you have an early morning flight out or a late evening return, it’s recommended to plan a visit here on the first or last day. Or, if you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can even arrange a 2-day-1-night trip to fully explore the area.

You can also pick up some creative souvenirs at Ngong Ping Village, such as cable car-themed pillows and Buddha-shaped music boxes — exclusive items you can only find here. After exploring and having a meal, it’s especially recommended to take a bus to Tai O in the afternoon and then hop on the “Tai O Boat Tour” to get an up-close look at the old fishing village’s stilt houses.
