Limiting visitors with high prices? Shanghai Disneyland tickets are expensive, 60% of netizens say they won’t go

The upcoming Shanghai Disneyland has been a focal point of attention in mainland media. Earlier reports indicated that the minimum budget for a one-day trip for a family of three would be 2,600 yuan (approximately NT$13,000). Now, new reports say over 60% of netizens believe the ticket prices are too high and will choose not to visit.
In preparation for the June 16 opening, Shanghai Disneyland recently launched internal operational testing, but some invited guests complained that the food is too expensive, with almost all full meal sets costing between 70 and 80 yuan (RMB, the same below). The Beijing Youth Daily reported on the 12th that merchandise prices are also not cheap; the report used a family of three—two adults and one child—to do a sample calculation. If visiting Shanghai Disneyland on the weekend, the one-day ticket costs 1,371 yuan, plus meals at 750 yuan, and shopping at 500 yuan, the minimum budget is around 2,600 yuan.

Meanwhile, China National Radio’s online news platform, CNR News, reported on the 14th that 30% of netizens believe high prices will not deter them from visiting Shanghai Disneyland. Using pricing to limit visitor numbers can ensure a better park experience and higher service standards. “As long as the prices are clearly marked and worth the cost, there’s nothing wrong with it. Visitors should also be mentally prepared.”
However, over 60% of netizens believe they will skip the visit if ticket prices are set too high. Some compared it to luxury goods in daily life: “The choice is ours—we can choose not to buy Prada, or go to Disneyland, since it’s not a necessity.” Others said it’s simply not worth the price, and that limiting visitor numbers could be achieved through other means rather than raising prices.
