After celebrating the romantic Western Valentine’s Day, are you planning to take your relationship to the next level? In recent years, Taiwan has also embraced the Japanese way of celebrating Valentine’s Day: women give gifts to their crushes on February 14, and the recipient returns the favor on March 14 — commonly known as “White Day” — by giving a gift and expressing their feelings.

Following this trend, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration will hold the “2012 Romantic Checheng White Day Music Feast” on March 10. The event will allow one couple to propose on-site, and if the proposal is successful, the organizers will present a special souvenir set (limited to one couple, priority based on the time of faxed registration and payment; the gift package includes free wine products — up to two bottles per table for up to 100 tables — for couples getting married within a year, upon presentation of a wedding invitation at Checheng Winery). Registration runs from February 15 to February 29.
The registration fee for the nighttime lover's music feast is NT$600 per couple (two people, either lovers or spouses; limited to 101 couples). Participants can enjoy a nighttime barbecue, roast wild boar, and simple meals, as well as receive two commemorative POLO shirts embroidered with the words “Loving Checheng.” If fewer than 50 couples (100 people) register or if the Central Weather Bureau forecasts rain seven days before the event, the organizers will cancel the activity and refund all fees without interest.

Participants in the Checheng Nighttime Lover’s Music Feast are advised to first experience a bike ride through the Green Tunnel in Jiji Town in the morning on the day of the event; or visit the tea fields in Xinyi Township and soak in the hot springs of Dongpu; or explore local specialties such as plum meals in Shuili and Xinyi. They can also visit the railway area in Checheng before joining the evening music feast.
