The news of "The Hat Queen" Teresa Teng’s passing due to cancer shocked and saddened all her fans. Aside from her exceptional singing talent, Teresa Teng also starred in several films during the 1980s. Shengping Theater in Jiufen will screen two classic Chinese films starring Teresa Teng — *The Story of a Girl Who Likes to Laugh* and *A Stroll in the Rain* — at 11 a.m. this Saturday (the 18th) and next Sunday, respectively. The screenings are free and open to the public, offering a chance to revisit the timeless charm of the legendary singer.

Shengping Theater was once the largest cinema in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. After closing in 1986, it fell into disrepair on Jiufen Old Street until being revitalized by New Taipei City Government. It reopened last September. Now a multifunctional arts and culture space, the theater features nostalgic static exhibits, glove puppetry, storytelling performances, community art shows, lectures, as well as screenings of classic films every Friday to Sunday afternoon.

To honor Teresa Teng’s acting legacy, the originally scheduled weekend screenings of *Listening to the Wind – The Tale of Jiufen* and *Dancing Rain – The Last Light of Jinguashi* have been postponed once. Both *The Story of a Girl Who Likes to Laugh* and *A Stroll in the Rain* star Teresa Teng and Kenny Bee, directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien. *The Story of a Girl Who Likes to Laugh* is a comedy about a rich girl who falls in love with a road construction engineer while traveling in the countryside. *A Stroll in the Rain* tells the love story among a photography assistant, an advertising director, and a blind doctor.
