The globally beloved classic film *The Sound of Music*, with its iconic and widely sung melodies translated into numerous languages, has resonated around the world. This spring, Taiwan’s most authentic recreation of the film’s original soundtrack will be fully presented at 7:00 PM on April 14 at Taichung’s Fulfillment Amphitheater during the “Meet The Sound of Music” concert.

Taiwan Mobile and the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau have jointly invited conductor Chiang Ching-Po to lead the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Time, together with top Taiwanese soprano Yijia Chan, to perform the classic songs of *The Sound of Music* exactly as they appear in the film at Taichung Fulfillment Amphitheater. Ruan Shu-Xiang, head of Taiwan Mobile’s Public Affairs Department, stated that securing the rights to use the film’s original music was an extremely challenging process. The stringent licensing restrictions are rare in Taiwan—not only must the performance follow the original score note-for-note, but also, no more than four instrumental tracks from the full musical are allowed. This means this concert will be the most complete and officially authorized version of *The Sound of Music* ever staged in Taiwan.
The concert is also calling for children across the country who know how to sing “Do Re Mi” to join the joyful musical journey inspired by *The Sound of Music*. Children who sign up to perform can receive a special gift bag while supplies last. For registration, call 02-6636-1527. Notably, the concert will feature a special performance by the Alishan Youth Choir during the intermission, singing traditional Tsou tribal songs. These children are survivors of the devastating Typhoon Morakot, which heavily damaged their homes. Now, through music, they are rebuilding their spirits and expressing love and hope for the land of their ancestors through song.
The *The Sound of Music*, which premiered on Broadway in 1959, won six Tony Awards and became a global sensation when adapted into a film in 1964. It won five Academy Awards and became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Christopher Plummer, the veteran actor who portrayed Captain von Trapp and left a deep impression on audiences, recently won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at age 82. The international acclaim and positive audience reception further heighten expectations for this spring's concert.
