In February, Lion Travel just partnered with Silks Place to launch a medical aesthetics and health check travel package. Today, China Airlines announced a collaboration with Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital, Chang Bing Show Chwan Memorial Hospital, and E-Da Hospital to launch Taiwan’s first premium medical and aesthetic travel products for mainland visitors starting in April. The launch cities include Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, and other cities that were opened for independent travel last year. The 3-night, 4-day premium health check travel package starts at RMB 7,190 (before tax, approximately TWD 34,240).

Since the Department of Health announced in January this year the approval for mainland visitors to come to Taiwan for medical checks and aesthetic treatments, various service providers have been competing for market share. Hong Ziren, General Manager of Shin Kong Health Management, stated that Shin Kong has been offering medical check packages for mainland visitors since 2009 and has served over a thousand mainland clients, including Zong Qinghou, China’s richest man. In October last year, Shin Kong hosted 15 mainland visitors for health checks, who spent a total of TWD 1 million. Show Chwan Hospital has been receiving mainland medical tourists since 2008, and in February alone this year, they hosted 300 mainland visitors. Zhao Meizhen, Director of Show Chwan International Medical Center, believes that the number of visitors will increase this year following the collaboration with China Airlines. Aside from the well-regarded medical environment and services, pricing is also a consideration. She mentioned that Show Chwan’s PET/CT scan package, which includes full-body positron emission tomography, tumor markers, stool tests, ultrasounds, and gynecological exams, is priced at TWD 33,000. She had heard mainland visitors mention that a similar full-body PET/CT scan in China can cost as much as RMB 10,000.

Shin Kong offers services based on the concept of the Taipei Shin Kong Health Park. In addition to medical checks, the itinerary includes stays in VIP suites at the Shin Kong Shilin Education Center, where guests can opt for rock-bed bathing and oxygen capsule sessions. The central Chang Bing Show Chwan Hospital includes health checks and aesthetic services, plus a wellness stress relief center that integrates services from psychiatrists, nutritionists, and aromatherapists. E-Da Hospital leverages group resources such as the E-Da Crowne Plaza Hotel, E-Da Theme Park, and E-Da World Shopping Mall to offer entertainment and wellness combined travel packages.
Taking the Shanghai–Taipei route as an example, China Airlines’ medical tourism independent travel package includes round-trip flights valid for 14 days along with stays at partner star-rated hotels. The 3-night, 4-day package starts at RMB 7,190 (before tax). Depending on the flight route and selected hospital health check packages, discounts of up to 15% off the market price are available.
