In 2012, the key focus of Tourism Malaysia’s promotion efforts in Taiwan was the “Malaysia Home Stay” program, inviting Taiwanese visitors to stay in traditional local homestays and deeply experience Malaysian culture by participating in the daily lives of residents.

According to statistics, since Taiwan implemented the visa exemption policy for Malaysian travelers in March 2011, the number of Taiwanese tourists visiting Malaysia reached 233,787, a 10.7% increase compared to 2010. This year, Tourism Malaysia has introduced the new travel concept of “Home Stay” in Taiwan, arranging for participants to stay in traditional local homestays. By living with host families, visitors can gain an in-depth experience of traditional Malaysian culture.
The initial Home Stay destinations include Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. As the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur leads the nation in commerce, trade, finance, information technology, and tourism. Located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Selangor boasts abundant natural resources and the stunning spectacle of its firefly river, attracting large numbers of visitors every year. The Batu Caves, a popular destination for domestic tour groups, is also located within Selangor.

Tourism Malaysia will also hold the “Wonderful Times Await You in Malaysia – Where Asian Charm Lives” series of events in Taipei’s Xinyi VivoCity Pedestrian Area over the next two days (the 17th and 18th). The event will feature hands-on experiences with traditional Malaysian batik and beading culture, free tastings of limited-edition Malaysian delicacies, and a lucky draw for those who collect all the activity stamps. Prizes include round-trip flights to Malaysia and more. The public is welcome to join in.
