Continuing last week’s feature on scenic hotels, this week we’ll introduce more scenic hotels located in the suburbs of Taipei. Each boasts its own distinctive charm, making them well worth experiencing.

* The most romantic “Love Boat” for sea views – Fullon Hotel Danshui

 

Located within Fisherman’s Wharf and near the Danshui river mouth, the Fullon Hotel features a cruise ship-inspired design that complements the local landscape. It houses 198 guest rooms, a hot spring sauna, KTV rooms, a bar, a café, a Chinese restaurant, banquet halls, and an outdoor pool... Coupled with the nearby Guanyin Mountain and Danshui’s famous sunset, the expansive scenery makes it a popular choice for vacations.

 

This five-star hotel, also known as the “Fullon Love Boat,” was also the filming location for the youth romance movie “Bad Girls” starring Show Lo and Ella (set to release on April 3 this year). Fans who visit after watching the film are sure to enjoy an even more memorable and atmospheric travel experience.

* Auto Temperature-Controlled Tatami Room

Danshui’s temperature is often two to three degrees lower than in downtown Taipei, especially during cold fronts. Closed windows alone aren’t enough to keep the room warm, so a heater is often needed. Considering this climate, Fullon has specially installed auto temperature-controlled flooring in the tatami-style sea view rooms. When the temperature drops below 18°C, the heating activates automatically, keeping guests warm and comfortable as they enjoy the view outside. In summer, guests can open the floor-to-ceiling windows and relax on the private balcony with a view of the sea — a truly carefree experience.

* Ah Ji’s Sea View Tea House

Popular Fullon executive chef Zheng Yanji (aka Ah Ji), together with Chef Chen Xipan who has 46 years of experience in Hong Kong-style cuisine, create handcrafted dim sum emphasizing fresh ingredients made on-site, without frozen food or artificial coloring. With over 60 varieties of dim sum, hot dishes, rice/noodles, and soups priced between NT$80 and NT$560, traditional trolley service allows guests to enjoy delicious food by the beautiful sea. The popular “flowing sand buns” (lava custard buns) are a must-try, along with fish roe shumai, char siu puffs, taro cake, steamed chicken feet, BBQ meat platter, bell pepper pork tenderloin, and authentic Hong Kong-style preserved egg porridge.

* Lover’s Tower

Taking four years to build, Lover’s Tower was officially opened on May 21, 2011, and is a prominent landmark at Fisherman’s Wharf, as well as a highlight of the Fullon Hotel. The tower’s cabin rises 100 meters high and offers a 360-degree rotating view of Danshui and the opposite shores of Bali, Taipei Harbor, and Guanyin Mountain. One full rotation takes about six minutes, with commentary broadcast along the way. The tower departs every half hour. On clear days, the view is breathtaking, while foggy or rainy days offer a surreal feeling like walking on clouds. Operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM daily, extended to 9:30 PM on holidays. Mondays are maintenance days with no service. Current ticket prices are NT$170 on weekdays and NT$190 on holidays.
