The once-viral Hong Kong-style old community on IG is actually in Taiwan — the densely packed honeycomb-like windows and circular apartment buildings are part of the Guomao Community in Zuoying, Kaohsiung, located between Zhonghua 1st Road, Cuihua Road, and Cuifeng Road, forming a housing complex. Online, it has even earned the nickname “Little Hong Kong of Kaohsiung.”

Guomao New Village was once the largest military dependents’ village in southern Taiwan, and the Guomao Community was rebuilt from the former Navy dependents’ village Guomao No. 3 Village, also known as Bihai New Village.
The dense honeycomb windows create a uniquely aesthetic feel
The activity center of Guomao Community still has traditional loudspeakers known as “broadcast heads,” and tall flagpoles often display the national flag. It’s common to spot flags hanging from household balconies, as if continuing to write the story of time through memories of the old days. Even though the bamboo fences are gone, Guomao Community still exudes a strong military dependents’ village atmosphere.
A former military village that witnessed the passage of time
Stepping into Guomao Community still feels like wandering through an old-style maze. There are thirteen apartment buildings arranged in a circle, radiating outward from Guomao Community Park. The popular IG photo spot lies between Building 8 and Building 9 — use a low-angle, upward shot with the circular sky in the background. Even a smartphone can capture a fisheye-like effect.
