Known as Japan’s Alps, the Tateyama Kurobe range boasts breathtaking views of towering mountains nearing 3,000 meters, scenic alpine railways, and mountain vistas that captivate visitors. This afternoon (June 1) from 15:00 to 18:00, Toyama Governor Takashi Ishii will appear at Taipei Railway Station. Also performing will be the Echigo Nishiki Haguhime group from Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, who will showcase the traditional local Wind God Taiko drum performance. Lucky attendees may even take home tulips from Toyama Prefecture.

Who says you can’t enjoy snow in early summer? Located in the northwestern part of central Honshu, Toyama Prefecture is surrounded by high mountains on three sides, and its continuous ranges create spectacular alpine scenery. The Tateyama Kurobe range, known as Japan’s Alps, is famed worldwide for its mountain landscapes. Snow walls, alpine railways, and mountain vistas attract large numbers of visitors seeking relief from the heat every year from April to June. This year, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route’s Great Snow Valley opened on April 17. Walking through the Great Snow Valley to admire the majestic, towering snow walls remains the most popular and iconic way to experience the area.

The regular Toyama flights, operating once every Monday and Friday, not only significantly reduce travel time to Tateyama Kurobe but also offer more flexible travel options for visiting Toyama Prefecture. In addition, the UNESCO World Heritage site {?glitch in text?} features iconic 60-degree-angle thatched gassho-style buildings, which look serene and peaceful against the fresh greenery of spring. Meanwhile, the nostalgic Kurobe Gorge Railway glides through Japan’s deepest and largest V-shaped Kurobe Gorge, offering breathtaking views of steep cliffs with ease.
