Dashu District in Kaohsiung City was once the world’s top producer of canned pineapples, earning the title “Pineapple Kingdom.” The area is also famous nationwide for its refreshing and sweet pineapples and its Yuhuabao lychees, known as the “King of Fruits.” Every year from May to June, sweet and juicy pineapples and lychees enter peak production season. The Dashu District Office will also hold the “2012 Kaohsiung Pineapple & Lychee Culture Tourism Festival” starting June 2, featuring a “NT$1 Pineapple Grab” event on opening day to let visitors eat their fill while saving money.

The 2012 Pineapple & Lychee Culture Tourism Festival will take place from June 2–3 and June 9–10, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with activities held at the Gushan Storage Leisure Park and the Old Iron Bridge Wetland Ecological Park. Events include the “Dashu Hometown Sentiments: Pineapple & Lychee Stories” industrial and local culture exhibition, DIY experiences, weekend street performances, and organic eco-agriculture displays. On the opening day, June 2, at the Gushan Storage Leisure Park, there will be the first sale of champion Golden Diamond Yuhuabao lychees and an NT$1 pineapple grab event, along with a points-based lucky draw.
In addition, the Dashu District Holiday Sightseeing Shuttle Bus will offer free rides from May 19 to August 19. Visitors can board at Dadao Station (Dadao Cultural and Artistic Center) on the Kaohsiung MRT or at Jioujiutang Station on the Taiwan Railway.
