Sitting in the driver’s cab of a high-speed train and experiencing the thrill of speeds close to 300 km/h is surely a dream for many kids and adults alike. Taiwan High Speed Rail is set to hold a 2-day-1-night “2012 Taiwan High Speed Rail Camp” starting July 3. The camp is divided into four groups: upper elementary, junior high, senior high/vocational, and university/college, with two sessions per group for a total of eight sessions. In addition to lectures by railway experts on high-speed rail knowledge, participants will also visit maintenance and control centers, and have the opportunity to experience high-speed rail speeding through a simulator. Registration is now open, with 30 confirmed spots and 10 standby spots per session, at a cost of NT$1,000 per person.

The 2012 Taiwan High Speed Rail Camp will feature maintenance staff, control center operators, and service personnel from the rail company sharing real-world experiences, as well as several railway experts giving talks on trains and high-speed rail. Additionally, participants will ride the high-speed rail to visit usually off-limits maintenance bases and control centers, gaining firsthand insight into train scheduling and maintenance routines, and experiencing the thrill of driving a high-speed rail train through a realistic simulator cabin.

Registration is open from now until June 8. Session dates are as follows: July 3–4 and July 10–11 (junior high group), July 17–18 and July 24–25 (upper elementary group), July 31–August 1 and August 7–8 (senior high/vocational group), and August 14–15 and August 21–22 (university/college group). Each session has 30 confirmed spots and 10 standby spots. Taiwan High Speed Rail will hold an online lottery on the 11th, with admission results announced at 10:00 AM on the 12th on the high-speed rail website. Registration website: www.thsrc.com.tw.
