The Meinong Yellow Butterfly Festival has been held since 1995 and is now in its 17th year, making it one of the most representative summer events in Kaohsiung. The 17th edition of the Meinong Yellow Butterfly Festival will take place from July 14–15 in Huangdie Cuigu Valley, with the “Story of the Yellow Butterfly Festival” exhibition at the Meinong Story House launching as early as the 6th. On the exterior wall of the Story House, there will be 17 giant butterfly artworks painted by local Meinong youth, with the largest butterfly art piece stretching 5 meters long — a yellow butterfly made up of 8 puzzle pieces. In addition, during the two days of July 14 and 15, various themed activities such as the Meinong Cultural Walking Trail, Yellow Butterfly Train, Village Music Concert, Butterfly Worship Ceremony, and Forest Green Market are planned. Among them, on the 14th, the Meinong Cultural Walking Trail and Yellow Butterfly Train will be guided tours led by interpreters to visit the Yellow Butterfly Festival exhibition area and key cultural sites in Meinong, with individual fees of NT$100 and NT$200 respectively.

The upcoming light travel experiences—the Meinong Cultural Walking Trail and the Yellow Butterfly Train—both begin at 9:00 AM from Shuangfeng Park, located opposite Meinong Railway Station. The light travel experience is divided into Upper Village and Lower Village routes, where participants will explore sites such as the Old Bridge of Meinong, the Lin Family Tobacco Barn, and the Blue Shirt Shop on foot, experiencing the historical spaces of Hakka villages. The Yellow Butterfly Train will take visitors on a shuttle bus to visit attractions including Guangjinsheng (Lin Family Ancestral Hall), Fumei Road (Xianfeng Embankment), Wangye Altar (San Shan King Temple), Butterfly Park, and Zhong Lihe Memorial Hall, offering an immersive experience of Meinong’s cultural and ecological beauty.
The Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau recommends that visitors take the opportunity of the “Yellow Butterfly Festival” to first visit the Meinong Story House to view the “Story of the Yellow Butterfly Festival” exhibition, then continue on to see the Century-Old Public Well, Dongmen Tower, Hakka Cultural Museum, Lin Family Tobacco Barn, Jinan Hall, Guangjinsheng Paper Umbrellas, Shuangfeng Park, Zhongzheng Lake, the Old Bridge of Meinong, and return to the Meinong Story House. Alternatively, visitors can start from the Meinong Story House to the Old Bridge of Meinong, Yong’an Old Street, Lower Village Water Bridge, water channels, Bo’ai Street (ancestral homes), Zhongshan Road (Tobacco Guidance Station), Hakka Cultural Museum, Meinong Railway Station, Shuangfeng Park, Zhongzheng Lake, Xihetang Alley, and return to the Meinong Story House. Travelers can take the “Qi-Mei National Highway Express Bus” from Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station to Meinong Station and walk to the Meinong Story House.
