Using apps to book flights and check in online is common nowadays. Now, to provide more channels for emergency assistance while abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched the “Travel Emergency Guidance” (Travel Emergency Guidance) app, integrating various overseas travel information. It is now available for free download and installation on the App Store, Android Market, and Chunghwa Telecom’s Hami app store.

The “Travel Emergency Guidance” app is the first in the country to offer the most comprehensive overseas travel information. It incorporates the Location-Based Service (LBS) feature of smartphones, allowing users to access basic information about their destination or current country, travel alerts, passport loss procedures, visa information, weather, flight schedules, exchange rates, and emergency contact numbers of Taiwan’s overseas missions anytime, anywhere, after downloading and installing the app on their smartphones or tablets. Currently, only the United States and South Korea provide similar services to their citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is currently planning to integrate new communication technologies with the existing overseas travel safety mechanisms to develop an “Overseas Travel Safety Cloud,” providing even more comprehensive services for outbound travelers.
