One of the richest regions in purple crow butterfly ecology nationwide, the Red Leaf Park in Guanziling, Tainan, has now entered the season of fluttering butterflies. Starting July 14, the Siraya National Scenic Area Administration will hold eight “Butterfly Wonderland” events over four consecutive weekends at Guanziling Red Leaf Park. During the event period, there will be guided butterfly ecology tours, butterfly tagging experiences, challenge games, interactive performances, as well as bird ecology interpretation and evening amphibian and reptile talks. Shuttle buses will also be arranged between Xinying Bus Terminal and Red Leaf Park. Participation is entirely free.

Red Leaf Park is currently home to as many as 114 species of butterflies, and it is also one of the richest areas in purple crow butterfly ecology in Taiwan. The purple crow butterfly is one of the world’s two major migratory butterfly species. They migrate to the warm southern butterfly valleys in winter for overwintering and return north in spring to breed the next generation. During their northward migration, they pass through the Toucheng section of National Freeway No. 3. Due to their large numbers, the Freeway Bureau pays special attention—if the number of migrating butterflies exceeds 300 per minute, part of the outer lane of the freeway will be closed to protect their migration. This spectacular scene is truly a wonder to behold.
The Butterfly Wonderland held at Red Leaf Park will take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM every Saturday and Sunday from July 14 to August 5, with the purple crow butterfly as the main highlight. In collaboration with the Taiwan Purple Crow Butterfly Ecology Conservation Association, the event includes ecological guided tours, chart interpretation, and purple crow butterfly tagging experiences. There will also be ten bird ecology interpretation sessions and evening amphibian and reptile talks. Additionally, on-site activities such as Butterfly Match-Up, Butterfly Feast, and other challenge games will be available, along with an ecological scavenger hunt that combines compasses and treasure maps—successful treasure hunters may receive a limited-edition Siraya Enjoy Card.

On the day of the event, visitors who donate three unified invoices issued after May 2012 to the Huashan Foundation booth will receive a “Butterfly Message Card” and a butterfly silhouette DIY kit. Free shuttle buses will also be arranged during the event period to transport visitors between Xinying Bus Terminal and Red Leaf Park. The first bus departs from Xinying Bus Terminal at 7:00 AM, and the last bus leaves Red Leaf Park at 4:30 PM. On event days, traffic control will be implemented at the entrance to the section from Linkuangyuan Shiquan Hotel to Red Leaf Park—non-event official vehicles are prohibited from entering.
