During the summer vacation, besides traveling and enjoying the great outdoors, many also choose to spend their time leisurely in exhibition halls. The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts will hold the “2012 Art · Interdisciplinary” event on July 21–22, featuring a screening of the art film *The Astonishing Bruegel* at 2:00 PM on July 21 in the museum’s underground lecture hall. This film, which made its premiere at the Louvre in Paris last year, presents the classic works of Northern Renaissance master Pieter Bruegel the Elder such as *The Procession to Calvary*, using visual effects that “use paintings as backdrops” and “integrate people into paintings.” At 2:00 PM on July 22, there will also be a performance by the “Laiqu String Orchestra” in the museum’s first-floor sculpture hall. All activities in this series are free of charge, allowing the public to enjoy a cool and deeply artistic weekend.

The new film *The Astonishing Bruegel*, created by Polish director Lech Majewski, makes viewers feel as if they have stepped into a moving painting. It brings to life iconic scenes from the masterpiece *The Procession to Calvary* by the Northern Renaissance master Pieter Bruegel the Elder. *The Astonishing Bruegel* premiered at the Louvre in Paris last year, with visuals flowing and shifting slowly like brushstrokes. Built upon traditional blue screen techniques and through the seamless integration of people and painted imagery, the film delivers astonishing visual effects that “use paintings as backdrops” and “integrate people into paintings.” Additionally, the “2012 Art · Interdisciplinary” series will also screen a curated selection of films in September 15 and November 17, showcasing artistic masters through foreign Hollywood-style filmmaking techniques.

The lobby concert *Carving · Gradations* by the decade-old “Laiqu String Orchestra” will feature a selection of both Eastern and Western musical pieces, including “Vivaldi: Violin Concerto RV.199,” “Fengyang Flower Drum,” and “If I Open the Windows of My Heart.” There will also be a prize quiz and mysterious little gifts on site.
