During the summer vacation, large-scale themed tourism events are kicking off across Taiwan. Starting in July, major activities such as the Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Old Mountain Line Cultural Season, the Nantou Train Festival, and the North Coast Sea Music Festival will warmly welcome visitors. To accommodate tourist travelers, Taiwan Railways has added special train services. On holidays, additional Fuxing trains will operate at highly discounted fares: NT$200 from northern regions to Hualien, NT$350 to Taitung, and just NT$160 from Kaohsiung to Taitung. There’s also the student island-touring pass—“TR-PASS Student Edition” for 5 days at NT$599 or 7 days at NT$799, allowing travel across Taiwan on trains no higher than Fuhsing-class.

In addition, the beloved CK124 steam train, popular across Taiwan, is also in action in Nantou and Miaoli. Among its summer runs, the “Midsummer Formosa” on the Jiji Line every Wednesday during the summer break celebrates both the international marketing push of Taiwan Railways’ railway tourism and the hot sales of the Midsummer Formosa steam train—offering a special “Midsummer Formosa, Super Generous Giveaway” campaign for passengers riding in August. Every passenger on the August Midsummer Formosa train has a chance to win: one lucky winner per train will receive an exclusive, limited-edition commemorative item launched by Taiwan Railways. This is a special seal created to celebrate the sister-train relationship between Taiwan Railways’ “CK124 Midsummer Formosa” and Japan’s JR Hokkaido Kushiro Branch “C11 Winter Marsh Train.” Each set includes two designs (one of the CK124 and one of the C11 steam locomotives), with only 400 sets produced in a limited run—and available exclusively on the “Midsummer Formosa” train.
Taiwan Railways will draw 10 lucky winners among passengers on 10 train trips across five dates in August—namely August 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29—to receive this commemorative item.
