The Taipei Okura is the first hotel established by The Okura Hotels Group in Taiwan and the group’s second global opening this year—Bangkok Okura debuted in May. Shinji Umehara, the Japanese general manager of The Okura Prestige Taipei, stated that overseas markets are a key focus for the group’s expansion. Aside from Mainland Chinese tourists, Japan is the most important market for Taiwanese tourism. Currently, mutual visits between Taiwan and Japan are approaching 3 million people annually, marking an increase of over 23% compared to last year. Additionally, the 2011 renewal of the “Taiwan-Japan Air Services Agreement” is expected to boost business travel between the two countries, potentially raising hotel occupancy rates and room rates.
The Taipei Okura features three uniquely charming specialty restaurants and one bar. Among them, Yamazato Japanese Restaurant—originating from Tokyo Okura and highly acclaimed in the culinary industry—draws particular attention. Its Amsterdam branch has held a Michelin one-star rating since 2002. Promoting the slogan “Zero-distance gourmet experience between Taipei and Tokyo,” the Taipei Yamazato offers the same menu as its Tokyo counterpart, with most ingredients imported fresh directly from Japan, allowing guests in Taipei to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine just like in Tokyo.
